World Cup Update - USA d Australia 10-9
Prague logo
Prague - 22nd June 2009

In one of the mostly closely contested matches of the World Cup to date, the USA defeated Australia by the narrowest of margins in somewhat cold and damp conditions in Prague.

The Aussies came out with all guns blazing, quickly achieving a 5-0 lead. By half time, the Aussies had scored 9, with the USA 4. Sue McSolvin again led the way, making several spectacular saves.
World Cup Update
Prague logo
Prague - 19th June 2009

In Australia's second game of the Women's Lacrosse World Cup, it convincingly defeated Japan 24-6.

In the first half, Australia powered away 5 goals before Japan's athletic and energetic style put them on the board. Japan continued to challenge the Aussies who retaliated with a steady stream of goals to take a half time lead of 11-2. Slippery conditions caused some turnovers in the first half, playing in unexpected summer rain.
World Cup Update
Prague logo
Prague - 18th June 2009

Australia has begun its defence of the title of lacrosse World Champions by defeating Canada 16-11 in a strongly contested match. With some outstanding first half play by Jen Adams leading the attack, Australia went into half time with a convincing 10-4 lead. The Aussies began with all the confidence and skills which gained them selection into this World Cup team. Goals and assists came freely with some brilliant displays of ball movement and team work.

US Player
Hello, my name is John Hague. I am a recent college graduate from the U.S. and I am now just beginning a holiday around Australia. I played three years of division 3 lacrosse at Widener University, and coached at Chatham High School in New Jersey for two years while I finished my degree at Seton Hall University. I am very interested in getting involved in lacrosse in Australia. I would greatly appreciate any recommendations for playing in a league, coaching a camp or travel team, or even a pick-up game. Thanks.

Re: preparation for the 2010 World Lacrosse Championships
(this info is also downloadable from forms and downloads)

G'day all. If you have aspirations to be the best in the world in 2010 then now is the time to start getting in shape. It generally takes three years of lifting weights to reach your peak muscle strength so you need to get into the gym today. A gym work out utilises the same energy systems that we use in lacrosse because it is made up of short intense efforts and brief recovery periods. Muscle strength is also the foundation for speed, agility, explosive power, endurance, recovery etc. Lifting weights is the key to evolving from a good player to an elite athlete.

Illegal Women's Stick
The following has been received from Anne Kingston

The Warrior Amonte has not been approved for International use, is approved in the USA only. It is illegal for nationals and world cup.
Legality of Sticks
WLA
This information has been received from Annie Kingston

Although deBeer states on its website that the Essence head and the TOS bent shaft are legal for the IFWLA game, they have not been approved by the RIH Lab. The head with the shaft attached does not meet IFWLA Crosse specifications nor does the IFWLA rule currently allow bent shafts.

The deBeer Essence is NOT LEGAL for IFWLA play! there are problems with both the head and shaft; the first being that the shaft is currently bent and not legal according to IFWLA rules.

Only the old Apex and Impulse are currently legal for IFWLA play. The STX head with the bent shaft is not legal either.

Expression of interest for the positions of Coaches.

Australia will send a Senior Team to compete in the 2010 World Games in Manchester, England.
At this stage we are seeking expressions of interest from those interested in Coaching positions. (Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Specialist Coaches).
Candidates will be contacted once the final Team structure has been formulated and this is expected by the end of September at the latest.
Re headgear for Women
Most players would be aware that an STX player recently suffered a significant eye injury when hit by a ball during a game.

Players are advised that the wearing of appropriate head gear is permissible in all women's and girl's grades. The American style Eye Goggles are available from STX Australia, and Auslax - please refer to the sponsor's page for contact details.

The women's committee is currently working on a more formal policy to deal with this, and researching the availability and suitability of various helmets. This will be released as soon as possible.

You are reminded that unless wearing a helmet which protects the mouth, the wearing of mouthguards is compulsory in the Under 13/15/17 Girls and in all Women's Grades, and highly recommended in the Under 11 Boys and Girls.

Please refer to the sponsor's page for information about mouthguards from Peformance Mouthguards.
