Bays down the Bombers in Men's State League Grand Final
2010PremierswithShield
Despite going into the game as undefeated minor premiers and hot favourites to take out their second successive State League Premiership, Brighton went down to Glenelg 16 - 10 in the Lacrosse SA Men's League State Grand Final played at Findon Oval today.
In tough conditions, the Brighton Bombers started well, slotting early goals, but Glenelg wiped off their early deficit, hit the lead and were not headed for the rest of the day.
Aaron Lawman, a late inclusion after returning from Melbourne for the game scored 6 goals for Glenelg, while Leigh Perham was Brighton's top scorer with 4.
The President's Medal for the Best and Fairest Player in the Grand Final went to Glenelg's US import Steve Grossi.

Postponement of some games tomorrow
Due to the current and forecast weather conditions having a severe impact on the condition of fields at Woodville Lacrosse Club (indeed any club) and the subsequent potential threat to player safety, and to the ongoing condition of the fields, some of tomorrow's Grand Finals have been postponed until the following Saturday (11/9/2010).

Tomorrow - 4/9/2010 @ Woodville - times as scheduled
MSL - Field 1
MD1 - Field 2
WD 1 - Field 3
WD 2 - Field 3

Next Saturday - 11/9/2010 @ Woodville (tbc) - times to be confirmed
Men's Div 2
Junior boys and Girls - including Under 18 Boys and Girls

A very unfortunate circumstance, and again this decision has been made on the basis of safety of players and condition of field and best interests of the game. We have liaised with Competition Directors, League Coaches and the Woodville Lacrosse Club, and waited for the latest weather forecast from BOM.

As I write there is thunder and lightning and very heavy rain here at Glenelg, and the forecast is that this may continue.

Please help spread the word.

Men's State League Preliminary Final
In a spirited preliminary final fightback at Patterson Reserve, Glenelg defeated ETP by the barest of margins to win their way into the Men's State League Lacrosse Grand Final.

The boys from the Bay were 7-2 down at half time, but a strong five goal third quarter, and four goals in the last, got them over the line by one goal. It was the second year of preliminary heartbreak for ETP who went down to Woodville in the Preliminary Final last season. The Redwing boys were only able to score 3 times in the last half.

Young guns Luke Keesing and Nigel Morton led the scoring for Glenelg with four and three goals respectively, while US import Tyler Cassell scored 6 for ETP.

Glenelg take on the undefeated minor premiers Brighton in next Saturday's Grand Final at Woodville Lacrosse Club, Findon Oval.

Illegal Women's Stick
The following has been received from Anne Kingston

The Warrior Amonte has not been approved for International use, is approved in the USA only. It is illegal for nationals and world cup.
Legality of Sticks
WLA
This information has been received from Annie Kingston

Although deBeer states on its website that the Essence head and the TOS bent shaft are legal for the IFWLA game, they have not been approved by the RIH Lab. The head with the shaft attached does not meet IFWLA Crosse specifications nor does the IFWLA rule currently allow bent shafts.

The deBeer Essence is NOT LEGAL for IFWLA play! there are problems with both the head and shaft; the first being that the shaft is currently bent and not legal according to IFWLA rules.

Only the old Apex and Impulse are currently legal for IFWLA play. The STX head with the bent shaft is not legal either.
Re headgear for Women
Most players would be aware that an STX player recently suffered a significant eye injury when hit by a ball during a game.

Players are advised that the wearing of appropriate head gear is permissible in all women's and girl's grades. The American style Eye Goggles are available from STX Australia, and Auslax - please refer to the sponsor's page for contact details.

The women's committee is currently working on a more formal policy to deal with this, and researching the availability and suitability of various helmets. This will be released as soon as possible.

You are reminded that unless wearing a helmet which protects the mouth, the wearing of mouthguards is compulsory in the Under 13/15/17 Girls and in all Women's Grades, and highly recommended in the Under 11 Boys and Girls.

Please refer to the sponsor's page for information about mouthguards from Peformance Mouthguards.
